Tips For Filing For Social Security Disability

Brayden Miles

Unfortunately, it can be difficult for disabled individuals to find quick access to medical care and disability benefits. This is especially true for individuals who have never filed for disability before and don't have the help of a social security disability attorney. Here are a few tips that will help you successfully file for social security disability.

Get Support

One way you can increase your chances of successfully filing for social security disability is by getting support from your personal physician. If you can get your physician to support your disability case, you should have him or her fill out a detailed statement. This statement should provide a good explanation as to why you are disabled and incapable of working. Preferably, you should have your personal physician fill out an RFC form, which will serve as the detailed statement.

If your doctor doesn't want to support your disability case for whatever reason, you should consider switching to a doctor who will. You should look for a physician with a smaller practice, as such physicians are more likely to be willing to devote more time to an individual patient. Doctors with smaller practices are more likely to have the time to fill out an RFC form. Before you ask your new physician to fill out the RFC form, you should see him or her a few times to establish that he or she is your new personal physician. If a doctor is unwilling to write a statement due to time constraints, you could also allow the doctor to charge a fee to write the statement.

Keep Tabs

When it comes to the status of your disability case, it is vital that you keep tabs on a regular basis. That way, you won't unknowingly miss important deadlines because you were unaware that the status of your case had changed. If you are being represented, you can simply call your attorney in order to keep tabs. Otherwise, you will have to contact the DDS for updates on your disability case. Speaking of the DDS, ensure that you maintain a good relationship with the disability claims examiner. The friendlier you are with the people working on your case, the more they will do for you.

Unfortunately, most social security claims are denied at the initial claim level. This is especially true when the disabled person making the claim doesn't have an attorney to represent him or here. Fortunately, as long as you follow the tips listed above, you will increase your chances of being successful at filing for social security disability.

Consider speaking to an attorney's office such as Craig H Kline Law Office to get legal representation for your claim.

While it may not seem logical to get an attorney involved from the start, it's important that you protect yourself legally from the beginning. After making the decision to adopt, I have been through the process several times. I created this site to help other adoptive parents understand what they can expect from the entire process, including the legal support you're likely to need.
